Eros (plural Erotes) was the god of romantic love. According to Hesiod, Eros was born from Chaos in the beginning of the world's creation. Later writers, however, present him as the son of Ares and Aphrodite and the devoted follower of his mother. In art he is depicted winged, sometimes like a baby, other times as a child or a handsome youth.
